The Cape May Dragon Boat Festival is Finally Here!

Cape May Harbor will be awash in adrenaline on October 13th as the first annualCape May Dragon Boat Festival gets underway.  Dragon boat photo by Bob Haarmans

What is dragon boating? It's a boat of 20 paddlers, a drummer and a steers person paddling to cross the finish faster than their competition. It's power, speed, synchronization and endurance! And, it happens to be the fastest growing international team water sport.
Come join us for the excitement of seeing teams of dragon boats slicing through the water in Cape May Harbor, a line of 54 lion dancers, stilt walkers, bands playing, great food and shopping plus the sheer fun of being connected on a level comparable to nothing else. Don't miss it!

Coast Guard Surfman Wins
for Top Marching Cadence
"High Side Right Side" - Winner Cadence Contest 2012
The winner of the top Coast Guard Cadence is..."High Side Right Side" by Chief Petty Officer Cory Wadley of Station Morro Bay, Calif.! Please feel free to walk run around your office calling this cadence and not feel weird at all because it's the top Coast Guard Cadence of 2012.
"High Side Right" is a double-time cadence that requires the recruits to sing it when they are running as a company. The cadence was written by Chief Petty Officer Cory Wadley, one of approximately 160 surfmen in the Coast Guard who serves at one of the 19 designated surf stations in the U.S. According to Wadley, he wanted to write a cadence that taught recruits about the basics of piloting a motor lifeboat through heavy seas.
