Mid Atlantic 2012 $500,000

Fish Day Two - August 21, 2012

The stream of navigation lights stretched from Cape May Inlet back to Canyon Club Resort Marina early this morning as participants departed on Day Two of the 2012 Mid-Atlantic $500,000. With a forecast of light and variable winds and seas of less than three feet, 109 boats gave it a go today and headed offshore and the leaderboard began to take shape. While several white marlin were weighed, the talk of the day was big eye tuna as well over two dozen were weighed on what will go down as the best day for tuna weighed in the tournament’s 21 year history! In fact, when the dust settled tonight it will now take a tuna of at least 213 pounds to make the leaderboard!

Robert Warder of Parkton, Maryland aboard his Reelentless was at the scales in Ocean City shortly after the 5 p.m. opening and weighed a white marlin of 79 pounds to take the lead in the category. Also in Ocean City, Rusty Palmer of Berlin, Maryland aboard his Tighten Up weighed a white marlin of 70 pounds and sits in second place. In Cape May, Chris Lepping of Cape May aboard his Motivation weighed a white marlin of 67 pounds and moved into second place.

No blue marlin were weighed today so all three places are yet to be filled

Anthony Matarese of Ocean City, Maryland sits atop the tuna category with a 233 pound big eye caught aboard his Reel Chaos. Barry Weshnak’s Miss Annie of Singer Island, Florida is in second place with a 224-pound big eye followed by Walt Harmstead’s Tra Sea Ann of Brielle, New Jersey with a 213-pound big eye.

The dolphin lead presently belongs to Don Pyle of Annapolis, Maryland aboard his Moore Bill with a 43 pounder. The wahoo categories remain vacant.
